About the property
La Loma Ranch is 120 acres of raw desert paradise.
Located in the high desert, elevations at La Loma Camp range from 2,930ft to 3,412ft. The ranch is located approximately 1 mile from the boundary with Big Bend National Park and higher elevations feature sweeping views of the Chisos Mountains and Santa Elena Canyon.
While most retreat activities will be located at base camp, all of the property is available guests to explore.
La Loma means “little hill” in Spanish and is symbolic for the location of the property at the foothills of Christmas Mountain, standing at over 5200 ft tall on the eastern side of the camp.
To love La Loma Ranch is to pay attention to her details.
Over 70 million years ago, the Chihuahuan Desert, as the region is currently known, was actually a shallow, warm sea filled with sea creatures and abundant coral reefs. Keeping your eyes trained on the ground when exploring La Loma Ranch will often yield fossils of oysters, clams and other sea life preserved from that era. Even the dirt you’ll walk on has its roots in the marine history of this region. Bentonite, as the collective desert dirt is the region is called, is formed through a reaction between volcanic ash and seawater. If you’re adventurous enough, you’ll find the small volcanic caves on the property, the remnants of an active period in the earth’s crust in this region.
Today, La Loma sits within the Chihuahuan Desert, a relatively young desert that is brimming with life and diversity. In fact, the Chihuahuan Desert is the most biodiverse desert region in the world. In our corner of the desert, there are mature ocotillos, desert scrub and wildflowers in the washes if you’re lucky enough to visit after a recent rain. In the higher elevations, desert cacti are numerous and varied. Birds, deer, jack rabbits, javelina, coyotes, snakes, and lizards all call this place home.
Practically speaking, the ranch is located 6 miles off the pavement in the Christmas Mountains region of Terlingua Ranch. We’re excited to host you in our special piece of desert paradise.

“Just a gorgeous place to relax and unwind. Unlikely anything I’ve experienced in West Texas.”
