Frequently asked questions.
What’s the bathroom situation like?
Generally you should prepare for a camping style weekend. The property is “primitive comfortable” - we’ve got the basics, but it’s pretty no frills. The bathroom is an epiphany toilet, or an open-air pit toilet. Best views you’ve ever had while using the loo, we promise!
Will I be able to charge my phone or headlamp?
Absolutely! Our camp runs off of solar power, and we have plenty of spare outlets to charge your devices.
What about wind?
It’s a thing here in the desert! Typically the wind picks up in the afternoon, but dies down after sunset. Occasionally, it can be gusty overnight. We recommend ear plugs to help you sleep comfortably on windy nights.
Do I need to be an experienced hiker or yogi?
Not at all! Whether you’re a pro, or you’re looking for more supported experiences as you build your skills, each retreat experience is designed with the abilities and level-of-experience of each of our guests in mind. Prior to your retreat, you’ll be invited to join a Zoom call to meet other attendees and get detailed look-see into your experience, so activities won’t come as a surprise.
Are all activities required?
No, your time during the retreat is yours to own. Some activities, including group hikes, yoga and meditation will occur at a set time during the day, while other activities are mere suggestions during your own time.
What if I have dietary restrictions or preferences?
We’ve got you! When you reserve your spot for a retreat, your restrictions and preferences will be gathered and will influence the menu design. You’ll have an opportunity to peep the menu ahead of the retreat.
What if we have an emergency in the desert?
We’re out there, but not so out there that we can’t get help if needed. The camp has Starlink internet and your camp hosts have a Garmin Inreach active at all times. We’re a 30-minute drive from Terlingua and a 90-minute drive from Alpine.
Do I need to bring my own cooking equipment or utensils?
No, we’ve got you covered. Most retreats simply require you to bring your own water bottles.
What if I don’t have my own tent camping setup?
Let us know in your survey responses when you reserve your spot and we can typically help you out with borrowed camping supplies for the weekend, free of charge.
What weather can I expect in January?
Typically warm, blue sky days and chilly evenings - perfect sleeping weather! Highs range from the mid-60’s to low-80’s, while lows can hover around the mid-30’s to low-50’s. It’s typically breezier just as the sun is going down, and settles down before midnight. Pack earplugs if you’re a light sleeper on those windier evenings going to sleep.
